Photo Diary: Bird Rookery at Gatorland, Orlando FL [1]

Many of the local Florida waterbirds like to nest in the gator pond at Gatorland in Orlando each year. The gators prevent predators like Raccoons from reaching the nests, and as payment the Gators get to snarf up any unfortunate hatchlings that fall into the water.

It’s a bit late in the nesting season now, so most of the birdies have already flown the coop. The ones still here are the stragglers who got a late start.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently wintering in Florida.
