Doubling down with doublethink. "You'll see some numbers that are incredible," Trump told the crowd at the rally. "We just had one today — 69 [percent] for Trump, and I think 18 or 19 for 'DeSanctimonious.'" Former President Donald Trump touted an unverified Twitter poll at a rally held in Waco, Texas, over the weekend. Guy who spent the last several years crying over conspiracy theories about “thought police” and secretly-appointed “arbiters of truth” has now declared himself to be both the source and arbiter of truth. This is called doublespeak. It’s a tactic commonly used by fascists. pic.twitter.com/9qk8zs6c2v If Donald told Letitia James about how successful his company was, he was in "Trick a Bank Into Giving Me a Loan" mode, not "Trick the IRS Into Letting Me Get Away With Not Paying Any Taxes" mode. This is the weird new conspiracy theory. Someone should tell him that there is more than one Chinatown. There are several Chinese dominated neighborhoods in major cities all over the country. https://t.co/VFlOo1jeS8 Lindsey wore his new, super-shiny wig to do it. What a lovely gesture. Republicans have talked themselves into believing that 2024 is absolutely, positively, the last time they’ll have to deal with Donald Trump. Yesterday Benjy Sarlin brought the room down by arguing that even if Trump loses in 2024, he might run again in 2028, actuarial tables be damned. Is that possible? Absolutely. If Trump loses in 2024, he could easily mount another campaign—though this is as much an indictment of Don Jr. as a plausible heir as anything else. But let me take this a step further. During the Republican primaries, one of the arguments that Good Republicans will deploy against Trump as a way of passively challenging him will be to say something along the lines of, “Trump is great! But if Trump is the nominee, we can only get four years, because he couldn’t run for reelection in 2028. We need a Republican nominee who can give us eight years.” thetriad.thebulwark.com/...
