Washington. I wrote a diary on Mountains a while back, where I briefly mentioned the Cascades: See: www.dailykos.com/... . Probably the Cascades, which stretch from northern California to British Columbia, would fit into the title of most picturesque mountain range in the Pacific Coast region. Up until one of our daughters took up residence in Washington state and we followed after I retired did I get a chance to really go to any part except by flying over. Since then I have been to the northern Cascades twice and to Mt. Rainier once, with the latter visible not too far south on the Interstate and Mt. Baker always visible on clear days from the waterfront. Mount Baker from Edmonds waterfront. Glaciers and snow-capped peaks are a bit strange to me, as a desert rat, although Sierra Blanca, Mt. Taylor, and the Sangre de Cristo range in New Mexico, are often snow covered. Unfortunately I have never been in the Sangre de Cristo range and have been only to the base of Sierra Blanca, but have been to the top of Mt. Taylor (11,300 ft.) Mount Rainier and Mt. Baker both have glaciers and are potentially active volcanoes. The parts of the Cascades that I have visited were fantastic. The area of Mt. Rainier’s base on the Sunrise Trail gives one a lovely view of some of the glaciers and the Baker River and Washington Pass in the Northern Cascades are picturesque and beautiful. It has taken an adjustment for me as I lived for over fifty years of my life in the open spaces of the American Southwest, but the Northwest certainly has its charm. Certainly it does not lack beauty!
