If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation. There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope. We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community. We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes. A few weeks ago, I was watching The Glenn Miller Story . I’ve loved the thing since the first time I saw it. Jimmy Stewart played Glenn and June Allyson played his wife, Helen. You might remember that I mentioned that “our song” was Moonlight Serenade, by Glenn Miller, which is a little odd, because Glenn had been gone, lost over the English Channel December 15, 1944, years before we were ever born. ‘ We both grew up with this kind of music, and the DH was a far bigger fan than I….at first. Moonlight Serenade became our song in short order. My mom and dad, romantics that they were had one of THE oddest “Our Song” choices I’ve ever heard of. Whatever other songs spoke to their hearts, I can only guess….our home was always full of music. But “their song” was sung by Bobby Darin, “Mack the Knife,” a Kurt Weill composition from Berthold Brecht's “Threepenny Opera.” . The funny thing is, dad was a dyed-in-the-wool romantic when it came to mum. So how this odd tune became “theirs,” I’ll never know. I never thought to ask in all the time they were here! Like the way dad would wander aournd the kitchen belting out “Wagon Wheels” it is yet another mystery! 🤣🤣🤣 So, please do share YOUR songs. I know of one or two, but I’d love to hear more! / If you’d like to share the story as well…..I’m a sucker for a good love story, too! In any case, please to have another cuppa and enjoy the tunes and chat! What’s on your mind this morning?
