Lewis Army Museum: Some half-tracks (photo diary) [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-17 The Lewis Army Museum on Fort Lewis near Tacoma, Washington, includes an extensive outdoor display of military vehicles, tanks, artillery, and other items. Most of these were not labeled meaning that no information about them was provided. Half-tracks are vehicles with regular wheels in front for steering and continuous tracks in the read for traction. The half-track is a vehicle with the cross-country capabilities of a tank and the handling of a wheeled vehicle. The tracks reduce the pressure on any given area of the ground by spreading the vehicle’s weight over a larger area. Unlike fully tracked vehicles, such as tanks, less specialized training is required for the drivers as anyone who can drive a car can learn to drive a half-track fairly easily. In the military, half-tracks are used as infantry transporters and as support weapons platforms. Shown below are some of the half-tracks at the Lewis Army Museum.
