My relatives have been governors and business people and yes, Delta slaveholders. Most of us are gone now, moved on to places that are not so backwards and corrupt, leaving behind little more than granite gravestones nestled among the magnolias, covered in pine needles. My grandfather’s family and children were, for the most part, liberal Democrats who stayed Democrats after 1965 and despised the increasingly venal and corrupt Republican majority that took hold on the backs of poor black workers and the fears of poor whites. The good Democrats left in the state need us. Brandon Presley needs us. His run for governorship may be quixotic but we won’t win unless we try. My aunt is still in Mississippi, a lone Democrat in a small town doing her damnedest to change the tide. She knows and has worked with Brandon and endorses him fully. That is enough for me. I just made my first donation and I ask that you join me by giving time and/or treasure to this campaign. Nothing can change unless we work for that change. Let’s help Brandon try. Brandon Presley isn't your run-of-the-mill politician. He's a doer. A fighter, who keeps his promises, stands up for the little guy, and isn't afraid to ruffle more than a few feathers to deliver results to the hardworking people and families of Mississippi. Brandon served as Mayor of Nettleton from 2001 to 2007, having been elected at the age of 23, making him one of the youngest mayors in Mississippi history. He balanced the budget every year, cut taxes twice, and got the town moving again. In 2007 he was elected to the Public Service Commission as the youngest Commissioner ever elected in Mississippi history. Brandon opened up meetings that had been closed to the public for decades, brought high-speed internet to some of the most remote and forgotten parts of Mississippi, put people back to work with the Hire Mississippi program, and saved taxpayers over 6 billion dollars. Now Brandon is ready to build a Mississippi where we fight corruption, not embrace it. Serve working people and families, not the special interests. And lead with strength, courage, and real backbone. www.brandonpresley.com [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/4/18/2164589/-Help-Mississippi-Save-Itself-Help-Brandon-Presley-Win Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
