The company had ceased sales after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. However, company executives recently confirmed that the company had resumed some limited exports of some products to Russia late last year, a situation that Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said he was “very suprised” to learn. In response to the news, many Swedish retailers and bars withdrew Absolut products from their offerings and three Swedish artists began a viral campaign spreading an image of a bomb crater in the shape of an Absolut bottle. In response the backlash, Absolut has announced it will immediately suspend exports to Russia again. Absolut’s CEO, Stephanie Durroux, issued this as part of a statement responding to the backlash: "the reaction over the recent days is clearly reflective of the role Absolut plays for its extended community in Sweden… Therefore, The Absolut Company has decided to stop the export of its brand to Russia.” Prior to the invasion, about 3% of Absolut’s sales were to the Russian market.
