Sorry, this diary is going to be a bit thin and rest heavily of items I find in the news. I’ve been on a busy 3 day business trip and just got home an hour ago. Totally lost track of the weeks. So let’s look at some news. The biggest so far is Dominion settling with Fox for close to $800 million. Sadly, it looks like admitting the lies on air is not part of the settlement. However, a lot of dirty laundry did come out in discovery. I am a bit bummed it settled because I was looking forward to Tucker, Maria, Rupert and Laura testifying, among others. Fox News’ statement shows they really haven’t learned much from this: x New: Fox News statement on $787.5m settlement with Dominion Voting Systems: “We acknowledge the Court's rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects FOX's continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards.” — Hugo Lowell (@hugolowell) April 18, 2023 If they have a commitment to “the highest journalistic standards”, then I am 29 years old and Miss America. But even still… this settlement SAYS that Fox LIED. We need to amplify this message as much as possible. We know we’re never going to reach the extreme right wingers, but if we can reach GOP leaning independents, we can keep them voting for Dems in 2024. Oh well, up next, Smartmatic’s suit for over $2 billion. And don’t forget… Fox is being sued by it’s shareholders as well. On to the E. Jean Carroll civil suit against Trump: Trial still on schedule to start on April 25th despite all of Trump’s delay tactics. x Trump is currently not expected to take the stand at E Jean Caroll defamation and battery trial scheduled to start April 25, per person familiar — Hugo Lowell (@hugolowell) April 18, 2023 Some insurrectionist news: x JUST IN: Eric Munchel, who became known as "zip tie guy" in the days after Jan. 6, and his mother Lisa Eisenhart are preparing to admit their guilt rather than go to trial. pic.twitter.com/1XNNTedKzF — Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) April 18, 2023 Good news: GenZ is paying attention! They’re tired of being subjected to gun violence in their schools just as much as we worry about it when we go shopping, to the movies, church, etc…. x Wow. America, pay attention. Gen Z is marching. We are walking out. We are demanding justice. And come 2024, the same people you see here will be first-time voters. This is what hope & a movement look like. Young people will save us. pic.twitter.com/39qf7Ep5uc — Victor Shi (@Victorshi2020) April 18, 2023 x I was asked today what gives me hope (by my good friend @WalshFreedom) and I said my peers and young people. This is why. These aren’t just future leaders. These young people are our current leaders. They are a force that won’t be silenced or knocked down. — Victor Shi (@Victorshi2020) April 18, 2023 This is good to see after that awful weekend NRA convention with people like Kristi Noem talking about how her 2 year old granddaughter already has a gun and these photos of kids handling firearms: x At the NRA convention, Republican Governor Kristi Noem said her 2yr old grandchild has multiple guns. "Now Addie, who, you know, soon will need them, I want to reassure you, she already has a shotgun and she already has a rifle, & she's got a little pony."pic.twitter.com/ePCcuROpKK — Tony - Resistance (@TonyHussein4) April 16, 2023 x Drag shows aren't the leading cause of violent deaths of children in America. Guns are. Yet the GOP wants you to think drag shows are a danger to kids, while supporting this at the NRA Convention this weekend. Make it make sense. pic.twitter.com/0NcdjWZC71 — Derrick-ish♎ #BLM 🇺🇦 🏳️‍🌈 (@Spawn_03) April 16, 2023 And finally, from the category of every confession is an accusation…. x FRANKLIN, TN: “Williamson County pastor Daryl Hayes indicted after investigators found he used his church’s internet to upload images of child sex abuse… tip led to the search of the Berry’s Chapel Church of Christ, where Hayes was lead pastor…” https://t.co/LXi87C9grz — The Tennessee Holler (@TheTNHoller) April 18, 2023 Once again, not an LGBTQ person and not a drag performer…. There needs to be some serious investigations into all these churches, RW or not, like was done with the Catholic church (I’m thinking of the investigation featured in the movie Spotlight). OK. That’s it for me for now. Too much going on to get it all in! I will hopefully be able to stop in but I have tons of paperwork from my trip. We’ll see how that goes. Chat away!
