The final installment of WOW2 for April 2023 will post next Saturday, April 29, as I am celebrating our 40th anniversary with my husband this weekend. __________________ Here’s just a very small sample of what’s coming: April 25, 1917 – Ella Fitzgerald born, American jazz singer, known as the “First Lady of Song” and the “Queen of Jazz.” She won 13 Grammy Awards, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the National Medal of Arts. April 27, 1882 – Jessie Redmon Fauset born, author, poet, and literary editor for the NAACP magazine The Crisis (1918-1926), where she worked closely with many of the most important African-American writers of the 1920s. She has been called the “midwife of the literary Harlem Renaissance.” April 29, 1968 – Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović born, Croatian Independent politician, President of Croatia (2015-2020); Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Public Diplomacy (2011-2014); Ambassador of Croatia to the United States (2008-2011); Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs (2006-2008); and Minister of European Affairs (2003-2005). She attended high school in Los Alamos, New Mexico (1985-1986) as part of a student exchange program, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish languages from the University of Zagreb in 1993, followed by a course at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (1995-1996), and a master’s degree in international relations at the University of Zagreb (2000). She was a Fulbright scholar the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University (2002-2003).
