The Teixeira leaks, why throw out the baby with the bathwater? [1]

Ok, to the point.. I see all these call for heads to roll, especially Teixeira’s chain of command. I am failing to understand this, and I contribute that to a good understanding of how IT job positions work. As I understand it, Teixeira worked IT for an intel unit. One can not work IT for an Intel unit and not have access to essentially everything the higher ups do. This is due to IT job function protocol and I am quite sure this can not change. I am also quite sure this was not a matter of lazy chain of command, ignorant chain of command, or the not following of any classified material protocol.

I am willing to bet most of the chain of command do not understand anything about IT, it is not their job. There is no way they could have been aware Teixeira was abusing his position and that is exactly what this boils down to, an abuse of position. I can not think of a single way the chain of command could have prevented this from happening, EXCEPT, by better screening who they put in his position. They are not on discord, how would they see it? I am sure they were not leaving important intel open on their PC for all to see.

Teixeira had “keys to the kingdom”. You can’t work IT and not have the keys. Working in IT, you understand magnitudes more about how computers work and how to access information on said computers than anyone else who uses them. So, better screen who gets the keys, yes. Other than that, I completely fail to see how they are responsible in any way.

Please enlighten me If I am missing something.
