Journalistic Denial-ism re: Vox [1]

I actually enjoy a lot of Vox reporting. So while this article targets them in specific — it is really a typical Climate Change investigative report. I will give them credit — they didn’t use the “ within” or “by ___” arguments wherein the author uses the words and phrases with great poetic liscence to de escalate the warning. Example If we don’t stop CO2 emissions by 2050 we could see the worst aspects of climate change. Funny thing 2024 is a year within that range and we could and will see exponential increases in climate change.

However it is a false hope and and hail mary pleading for science to come to rescue of humans

The Tricky Plan to Pull CO2

Here are the Arguments

Argument 1:

1. CO2 Levels are too high

2. The Planet’s carbon storage systems are incapable and or overwhelmed and cannot help us capture enough carbon

3. Humans need to step up and capture Carbon

Argument 2:

1. Human plans to lower carbon levels involve math stunts and fall short

2. Humans need to step up and capture carbon

Argument 3:

1. we need deeper investment and an increase in carbon removal plans

2. More carbon removal tech needs to be in use

3. If we fail at carbon capture by not increasing our use of carbon sequestration tech we are doomed.

Sounds fine,

The problem —

1. WE DON”T HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO DO THIS

A. we have underfunded research nothing scalable and no economic or political will to move forward

B. At it’s absolute best, if we could alter reality and go big right now. We are years behind.

So — Take away all the hope projecting and double talk — what is the real argument

1. There is too much CO2

2. We need to capture it or die

3. Despite our best efforts we are failing to capture enough CO2

4. The Humans of Planet Earth will not meet the necessary targets to avoid the worst of climate change … in other words — extinction
