Minnesota House voted 71-54 to legalize marijuana, State Senate vote expected on Friday [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-04-25 CBS Minnesota: Minnesota House passes recreational marijuana bill in vote of 71-59 ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota House on Tuesday has passed a bill legalizing recreational marijuana in the state. The bill passed on a 71-59 vote. A Senate vote on the bill is scheduled for Friday. There are some differences between each proposal that will likely be sorted out during a conference committee, a joint meeting of lawmakers from both chambers. Gov. Tim Walz has said he'll sign the bill as soon as it gets to his desk. The DFL (Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Minnesota’s version of the Democratic Party) holds a 70-64 majority in the State House, so at least one Republican must have voted in favor (that counts as bipartisan, right?) The bill now goes to the Senate where it’s expected to be voted on on Friday. In the Senate, the DFL as a 34-33 majority, so we’ll need every single Democratic vote. Because the Senate majority is so slim, the bill has gone through about every committee in the House and Senate, so no one can say that it was rushed or that people’s concerns haven’t been heard. It’s expected that the bill will pass, but unless some Republicans aren’t at the Capitol or some Republicans vote yes, we’ll need every vote.
