AZ) Fucking GOP MAGA Piece of Shit: x AZ sheriff and GOP Senate candidate Mark Lamb went on white nationalist Stew Peters' program, where he defended the man who shot Ralph Yarl: "He was trying to protect his property, stand his ground ... He took some action and now he's being persecuted." https://t.co/AGbJoUDIrE pic.twitter.com/SVzByEBdzz — Eric Hananoki (@ehananoki) April 25, 2023 U.S. Senate candidate and Republican sheriff Mark Lamb went on the program of white nationalist Stew Peters, where he defended the recent shooting of Ralph Yarl. Lamb told Peters that the shooting was “tragic” and shooter Andrew Lester “was trying to protect his property, stand his ground” and ”now he's being persecuted.” Media Matters has repeatedly documented that Lamb has attempted to build his political profile by appearing on fringe outlets, including QAnon programs and an antisemitic network. Peters is a streaming host who has repeatedly advocated for violence against his perceived enemies. He is a white nationalist who has told his audience that “Blacks commit the most violent crimes. PERIOD” and claimed that Black people are prone to criminality in part because of a “genetic” predisposition. He also has a history of making antisemitic remarks, demonizing LGBTQ people, and pushing fringe conspiracy theories, including about school shootings. Yeah, he’s not Kari Lake but he’s still garbage and yes, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D. AZ) would still beat Lamb and Kyrsten Sinema: In any likely three-way matchup among Sinema, Gallego and whatever Republican candidate wins their primary, Sinema appears to have virtually no chance of winning. If the GOP candidate is election denier Kari Lake, for example, the new PPP survey shows that Gallego would pull in 42 percent of the vote, Lake 35 percent, and Sinema just 14 percent. The numbers are similar if you plug Jim Lamon or Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb in as the Republican candidate. But then again, Lake is still fixated on this: Former Republican candidate for governor Kari Lake is not giving up on her hopes that she can still reverse the outcome of last November's race in Arizona. On Tuesday, Lake provided an update on her election lawsuit to her supporters, saying that her team is waiting on a judge to make a final ruling and that she's prepared to take the case to the Supreme Court if necessary. "We're just kind of, right now, waiting for the courts to rule, and you can't force that. You just have to sit patient," Lake told Steve Bannon on the latest episode of his War Room podcast. "One day, we're going to get a judge who realizes we're going to win in the end and they need to help bring back and restore this republic with fair, honest, transparent elections and a victory in our case would do that. "We do plan to take this all the way to the United States Supreme Court," she said. It has been nearly four months since Lake's Democratic opponent, Katie Hobbs, was sworn in as governor, but Lake has refused to concede. Hobbs defeated Lake by just over 17,000 votes, or less than 1 percentage point. Meanwhile, Arizona Democrats are more than ready to get behind Gallego’s campaign: Even though Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema left the Democratic Party and registered as an independent last December, she remains awkwardly aligned with the Senate Democratic Caucus. As frustrated as they may be with Sinema, top Democrats in Washington, conscious of the fact that the party maintains only a narrow 51-49 majority in the Senate, have been notably reluctant to criticize the filibuster-backing, Wall Street–friendly senator. That’s been the pattern since, after Sinema announced her split from the party, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) declined to say whether he would support her or an actual Democrat for the Arizona seat. “Senator Sinema is an excellent Congress member and Senate member, and she has done a lot of good things here,” Schumer said, after being asked in January how he’d react to a 2024 Sinema bid. “But it’s much too early to make a decision.” Senator Gary Peters, the Michigan Democrat who heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and describes Sinema as a friend, adopted a similar line in March, saying, “It’s really early. I don’t know what she’s planning on doing.” This dodging of the question might work to keep Sinema in the fold for now, but Democratic activists in Arizona reject the notion that it’s too early for Senate Democrats to clarify where they stand. The 2024 race is taking shape, they say, and mixed signals from Washington are effectively encouraging Sinema to seek reelection as a well-financed independent contender, split the vote with her Democratic challenger, and potentially tip the election to a right-wing Republican such as failed GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake. So over the weekend, the Arizona Democratic Party’s state committee sent its bluntest message yet about what’s at stake in 2024, and about how national Democrats should respond as the Senate contest takes shape. The committee passed a resolution declaring that Kyrsten Sinema has obstructed the Democratic agenda by refusing to reform the minority veto filibuster and blocking urgent and popular legislation including voting rights protections and democracy reform, codifying Roe v Wade, a $15 minimum wage, Medicare expansion, broad prescription drug price negotiation, a path to citizenship for Dreamers and immigrant families, LGBTQ+ equality, labor rights protections, sufficient climate action and clean energy funding, universal pre-K, paid family leave, universal background checks, an assault weapons ban, free community college, and more, all while ignoring and enabling the extremist MAGA Republican assault on our democracy, leading to her censure by the Arizona Democratic Party… We need to make sure a real Democrat is elected to the U.S. Senate in Arizona.
