Behind it is Beacon Street; across Beacon and a few steps to the left is the Arthur Fiedler footbridge over Storrow Drive to the Esplanade and the Charles and across the river Cambridge. Benches, like walls it seems, have stories. Another Gay Love Poem How different you looked sitting down the bench from me, sporting your worn-out dark-brown corduroys, that tattered old checkerboard flannel shirt, and your new independent face. As I turned my face only slightly away from you I could feel the morning sun Rembrandting my features, as I could feel your eyes warming my other cheek. "I still love you" I said, looking back, into your eyes; "but I don't need you." "I don't need you anymore." It felt good to say that, sitting with you one more time on that bench in the morning sun.
