This is from CNN and is a marvelous article about the many accomplishments of Harry Belafonte’s life. It has many wonderful stories, both inspirational and funny, and great details about him I never knew. He was one dedicated. impressive fellow, both in his entertainment career and his activism, which never dimmed. He was a ground breaking force in so many areas — civil rights, activism against AIDS and apartheid and efforts to continually speak out in American political life. He founded USA for Africa and initiated the development/use of the song “We Are The World” to raise funds to feed people, he was active in the voting rights battle and funded MLK and many civil rights organizations, as well as getting Hollywood celebrities involved. There is so much more here, and this information was totally inspiring to me, especially his lifelong devotion to progressive causes and his call to radical action to achieve change. Be sure to read it and be challenged by his example to make the change we need right now; I certainly was!
