Terrifyiffic thread on religion and belief systems, from a wide array of viewpoints and degrees of vehemence, both positive and negative. Not hard to understand the origins of religious wars, pogroms, slurs, hatreds and general chaos, given the scope, range and generally high-test adrenalin in many of the entries.

Both certain belief and total rejection of the divine are without any verification, however vehement the advocacy of the many, diverse, contradictory, incompatible, and mutually hostile opinions and creeds afloat in the world, whether held by a solitary crank or a powerful and ancient religion embraced by multitudes. Beliefs, be they ever so passionate, or acts of great generosity, compassion, or intrinsic righteousness are not proof of divine inspiration.

My religious stance: Agnostic, by which I do not mean that I give up, wimp out or otherwise have no point of view or moral compass. To me, Agnosticism reflects the philosophical stance that based on direct observation and credible evidence, the existence, presence, or absence of a divine being or order is indeterminate and unknowable. If such proof of either hypothesis is forthcoming, I will have no hesitation to know and embrace the reality of which I am privileged to partake.

In the meanwhile, let us accept one another in peace and mutual respect.
