A few days ago, Australian-born actor Barry Humphries died. What is Barry Humphries known for? He was a close friend of the Royal Family. King Charles III called him a few hours before his death. He developed a character named Dame Edna, a man dressed up in drag playing a woman. He was a global icon. A British actor, Eddy Izzard, has several famous solo comedic routines. Izzard wears makeup and highish heels in his sketches. A Dame Edna or an Eddy Izzard is not that possible in America these days. I wonder why. I think few on the American right know much about Dame Edna or Eddy Izzard. America does have Randy Rainbow, but Rainbow is popular on the American left, whereas Dame Edna's popularity cuts across political divides.
