SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER [1]

This posting was prompted by Kos’s recent “Bible Bigots”, which generated a lively interaction about current “Religious Adherents” (my words).

My friend wrote this, and I feel like it addresses the heart of the discussion at issue.

JESUS SPOKE TRUTH TO POWER

Jesus called out the self-righteous hypocrites,

And the corrupt religious leaders on their power trips,

And the law-blinded gnat-straining legalists;

Their status was all based on deceitfulness—

But He knew His message would be dismissed.

Jesus pointed out the filth of the filthy rich,

As foul and disgusting as unclean crypts;

And the self-serving greed of their accounting tricks,

Like a den of thieves, where the game is fixed —

But, they didn’t want to hear any Truth like this.

Woe to those who make trouble happen;

Woe to those whose hands and hearts are dirty;

Woe to those who lack compassion,

Ignoring justice, faith, and mercy.

Because of their indifference and inaction

They demonstrate they are not worthy.

Jesus disrupted the money-changers and their loyalists,

Whose false holiness made them counterfeits:

They served only Mammon and their unGodly profits.

Speaking truth to power put His Life at risk —

Thirty silver coins bought the betrayer’s kiss.

Jesus words of wisdom passed His righteous lips,

But, like pearls to swine, they never grasped this gift;

They had turned their backs on obedience —

There was little hope their allegiance would shift,

And they’d end their days in the eternal abyss.

Woe to those who make trouble happen;

Woe to those whose hands and hearts are dirty;

Woe to those who lack compassion,

Ignoring justice, faith, and mercy.

Because of their indifference and inaction

They demonstrated they are not worthy…
