The best of the USA [1]

Bruce Springsteen is in Spain. Specifically in Barcelona, a city where, in 2008, I saw him live two nights running in the sold-out 90,000-capacity Nou Camp stadium.

Spain totally loves The Boss. Some years ago a Spanish newspaper commissioned a set of every Springsteen album to date, on CD, with every sleeve being an exquisite miniature of the original album's, and every album accompanied by a glossy hardback book telling the story of the record. To this day that beautiful set (which I had delivered to the UK from Spain) enjoys pride of place on my shelves.

And, where Spain loves him, Barcelona goes wild for him. Here, today, he's in a Barcelona restaurant with Barack Obama and Steven Spielberg: www.theguardian.com/…

In two weeks' time I shall be front-of-stage at The Boss' two shows in Paris, France. There was a time that, when he was on a world tour, I would've gone to shows in the USA (I've done so many times in the past) but now, for political reasons, my partner and I are no longer eligible to enter the USA, a country where we have enjoyed many vacations following the trail of our heroes such as the aforementioned Boss and the greatest writer in the English language, John Steinbeck.

As you can probably imagine I am wildly excited to see Springsteen in Paris in the springtime. I pray that one day the USA returns to sanity such that I can see The Boss in New York City again.
