After all, they're either telling one of the sickest jokes ever about the threatened destruction of the U.S. economy, or they're too hypocritical to realize we have not forgotten the recent past! Whether it's a joke or MAGAhypocrisy, the irony is that many of the "naysayers" who now claim to be frenetically concerned about federal spending are the same bunch that voted in lockstep three times to raise the debt ceiling while they colluded with the former occupant of the White House to squander trillions of tax dollars on mega-rich corporate and individual donors. That memory seems to make some think that McCarthy et al. don't care about fiscal responsibility, only about "owning the libs," also known, in this instance, as embarrassing President Biden. Moreover, while many Republicans aren't the brightest bulbs in the Capitol chandelier (consider "geniuses" like Lauren Boebert, Margie Greene, Matt Gaetz, George Santos, and too many others to mention here), they aren't so dimwitted they'd actually force the destruction of our economy in the delusive hope they could con the American people into blaming Biden for the default and win Congressional majorities and the White House in 2024. Are they? Before the world is forced to find out whether Kevin and his band are doltish enough to trade away the full faith and credit of the United States for no other reason than to hold on to political power, wealth, and privilege, President Biden should put an abrupt end to the GOP threat by simply issuing an executive order to invoke Section 4 of the 14th Amendment ("The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.") and increase the debt limit by a sufficient amount to pay obligations already incurred by Congress. Who'd laugh at that?
