Just...help me understand what is going on here. [1]

I’m not trying to rekindle old pie fights, I’m just...trying to understand.

A while back there was this thing with the DKos guild and money and staff writers having to be let go. I’ve been here for a really long time, but I didn’t pick a side in that fight because...well...I am solidly pro-union, but I also have it out for a few staff writers here so I was just gonna wait to see what happened.

What happened was a few good writers had to be let go. Okay.

Now, on a Sunday evening, there’s three stories on what used to be called the front page from three seemingly new staff writers. If they aren’t new, at least I’ve never seen them before. Which is great, new staff writers can only be a good thing, fresh blood and all that. I have no opinion on their talent or potential. I do know a thing or two about the talent and potential of the writers who were recently released.

So, help me understand.

Are the new writers paid less? Did Kos find more money under his mattress? What am I missing? I know there are things that go into a business that are invisible, unknown to the casual reader. If there was an announcement that I missed, please point me to it.
