George Santos facing federal charges [1]

The long and sad saga of Rep. George Santos, the Republican who essentially stole a seat straddling Long Island and Queens by lying about his background, may have reached a climax. CNN and NBC News both report that federal prosecutors in New York’s Eastern District, which includes Santos’ district, have filed charges under seal against Santos, who is due in court as early as Wednesday.

According to NBC News, federal prosecutors have been investigating Santos’ finances for some time—specifically, questionable campaign disclosures and loans he made to his campaign. The House Ethics Committee is also investigating Santos.

Frankly, it’s a surprise Santos lasted this long. He lied about his education, lied about his business background, and lied about being the descendant of Holocaust survivors. Simply put, we don’t know who this guy is. Now, the only question remains—will Speaker Kevin McCarthy show some integrity for once?
