[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-05-11 Byron Callisto (as he was known at the time) on stage with Jupiter Sheep I was fantasizing about writing this headline. For anyone who read my diary on Monday night of this week, and especially for all of those who made such wonderful and heartwarming comments, nothing short of a miracle has transpired since then. Byron has emerged from heavy sedation, is off the ventilator and cracking jokes with the medical staff! This is an update from a relative who just visited with him: Dr Yang just came in, Byron was talking and joking with him. He said the MRI showed minimal damage and expects him to make a very good recovery. When the Dr asked him to say his name, he said his full name and answered other questions too. When Dr Yang asked him to repeat, “it’s a sunny day outside” there was a long pause and he said “it’s a sunny, beautiful, glorious day outside” and we all burst out laughing. He’s with the speech therapist now and we’re watching him eat apple sauce and peaches. He’s asking questions And just said, “I’ve been talking with good measure.” He recognized Anne and Will but not sure about me…I’m getting a complex after the reaction to my song suggestion😂😂🤣🤣 Oh, Dr Yang also said something and Byron said something about reading and then said, “stop call, don’t fall”. The three of us exchanged glances and giggles and then Anne noticed the sign on the wall—Byron was reading it!!! I visited with him on Tuesday and he showed no sign of clear recognition of my presence. I wanted to believe in his recovery, but I was deeply in doubt. I foresaw a future in which my dear friend’s body might recover, but not his mind. My fears are now gone. That is the Byron I know! His sense of humor is intact and he has a new life to look forward to. For all of those who commented on the earlier diary, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I forwarded it to his loved ones, of whom there are many, but especially to his wife and children. They found it gave them strength and you are all to be credited with helping to provide that. I love this community and I hope you will all enjoy a future diary by Byron himself. He is an amazing person, and I am so happy with his recovery!
