THE GOAL IS TO SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT

Just for argument’s sake, suppose you were an authoritarian and wanted to stay in power in democratic republic. You could stage a coup at the time that the government was to change from you to the person elected in a free election. But what if your plan was deeper: suppose you want to end the government altogether with one stroke. You could accomplish this if there were a way to shut off the ability to pay bills, thereby destroying the credit of the country and in essence shutting down the operation of governing.

There is no path for negotiating when the goals of the different sides are 180 degrees apart.

In case the Biden administration and the elected Democrats don’t get it: the Trumpists want to destroy the democratic republic and install their dictator.
