IAN: May 14, 2023 - Mother's Day [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-05-13 I’ll be here early and then again late. We’re going down to see the family. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* A history of lemonade. During the Renaissance, the Forum, dedicated to Julius Caesar, was used as a hospital. A couple of years ago, medical waste from that hospital was found. It is under study. Ten castles in Japan. Apparently, the shape of our noses is influenced somewhat by Neanderthal ancestry. Has your drink been spiked? There’s a test for that now. Probably not commercially available yet. What they’re finding under Norway’s Stavanger Cathedral. Beer made for Edward VIII’s coronation, which never happened (he abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson), was auctioned off the day before Charles’ coronation. Archaeologists have found a grave in Maryland dating back to the earliest colony. A teen-aged indentured servant, most likely. Apparently dumped, rather than formally buried. They have no idea who he was. Humpback whales having a spa day. ************************* Most of last Monday was dry in PDX. Around 4:00 PM, a thunderstorm started. It kept on intermittently overnight. It’s been dry and warm since — might even get hot. The last time I talked to my mother, she said she had some good news. She wouldn’t tell me what it was. If it’s actually real, it could be any one of several things, and somebody else will tell me about it if it is real. The desk light I bought most recently decided to stop working. I had to haul an older one out from where I’d stashed it. I don’t like the way the light hits anywhere near so well; but it does work, unlike the newer one. Saturday’s biggie was the load of laundry. And the shower. It’s going to take me a while to take comfortable showers for granted again. ************************* Love you guys!
