[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-05-16 New PA Rep. from the 163rd, Heather Boyd After an interminably long official tally, the fate of the Pennsylvania state House of Representatives has been determined, and Democrats will retain their majority. Democrat Heather Boyd has decisively beaten Republican Katie Ford, retaining the seat vacated by Democrat Mark Zabel, in the suburban 163d District, just outside Philadelphia. The result in that special election preserves Democrats’ single-seat majority in the statehouse. That means no BS “constitutional amendments” criminalizing abortion will be forthcoming in the Keystone state’s near future, and it also means no asinine and hateful anti-LGBTQ legislation will likely be presented for Governor Shapiro’s veto. Most importantly, it means the Republican narrative in the state has been effectively clogged and stymied, at least for the time being. President Biden personally endorsed Rep. Boyd in this race, and Boyd ran heavily on her pro-choice credentials. The PA Senate still remains effectively gerrymandered in Republicans’ favor. May their members twist vainly in the wind for another two years. At least.
