Work Requirements for Welfare is Corporate Welfare [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-05-16 Today’s (5/16/2023) MarketPlace had a story about for profit companies that manage work requirements for welfare programs. It is a prime example of how for profit companies parasitize government welfare programs for their own profit while leaving people mired in poverty. These companies have been at the forefront of the work requirements for welfare policy movement and have convinced policy makers to let them manage these programs for their states. These private companies charge the state for managing their state’s welfare recipients making sure the recipients are fulfilling the work requirements. These companies help the welfare job seeker find a job. When they do get a job the company gets paid. These jobs are mostly low wage and often don’t last long. Welfare people in these programs make money for these companies. Money that could, and should go directly to recipients. It’s a scam. These companies lobby for the work requirement policies, then convince policy makers to let them manage the policy. They create the market, make the profit, and the people who are supposed to be helped are stuck in low wage jobs, that often don’t last for long and they remain in poverty while the companies rake in the profits. It’s another example of the exploitation of capitalism. Exploitation of the poor and of government. Anyway the it’s worth a listen.
