Media companies would do well, to remember and follow that principle. Especially when it comes to the party that cheers on insurrection, the party who considers violating the 14th Amendment — and crashing the economy — all part of a day’s work. Bossman’s orders, afterall. So why is it that Media companies are rolling out the welcome wagon, to these renegades and buffoons who would tear-it-all-down — again — just to get their “retribution”? 7 Experts on Trump’s Call for Protests and Social Media Threat Models by Justin Hendrix, www.justsecurity.org/… —March 23, 2023 [...] In recent weeks, Facebook and YouTube reinstated Trump’s accounts citing a reduction in the risk of political violence, the threat of which served as part of the rationale for their decisions to suspend him following the events of Jan. 6, 2021. “We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election,” said YouTube vice president of public policy Leslie Miller last Friday, a day before Trump’s latest call for protests. One of the seven experts explains why re-platforming Trump is a mistake: [...] This is the dangerous – and entirely predictable – result of the decision to re-platform Trump . Since the insurrection, the former president has only tightened his embrace of the Big Lie, violent conspiracies like QAnon, and even political violence. The evidence for this should have been plainly recognizable to major social media companies. Over the past year, we’ve seen Trump incite an attack against the FBI for their search of Mar-a-Lago, dismiss a brutal attack on Paul Pelosi that was fueled by the Big Lie, and amplify a message that called for his supporters to be “locked and loaded” ahead of the 2024 election. His verbal attacks on the LGBTQ+ community also illustrate his enduring symbiosis with violent extremist groups like the Proud Boys. This all should make it obvious that Trump remains aware of his ability to rally his supporters to engage in intimidation and violence when it suits his political needs. Despite these clear signals, major social media companies have decided to act as if the threat has passed . This places all Americans at great risk, despite these companies’ promises to keep Trump in check this time around. There is no reason to believe that the political considerations that convinced Meta, Twitter, and other companies to tiptoe around Trump in 2020 will be any different now, as he attempts to re-energize his followers with a sense of conspiracy and grievance. In failing to learn the lessons of January 6th, these companies have paved the way for Trump to launch another, even more embittered assault on our system of democratic self-government. Let’s hope that American democracy can survive their mistake. — Jacob Glick: Glick is Policy Counsel with the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at the Georgetown University Law Center. He previously served as Investigative Counsel on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, where he was a lead counsel on the Committee’s investigations into domestic extremism and social media’s role in the attempted insurrection. www.justsecurity.org/... — CNN’s recent attempt to “rehabilitate” Trump’s tear-it-all-down reputation went swimmingly well — not. Instead of turning over a new leaf, Trump doubled-down on all his anti-democracy, threatening behavior of the past. Issuing new threats, to even the ‘full faith and credit’ of the American Economy itself. A National Debt by the way, that he made no effort to contain, when he was in power. Chaos — and “retribution” — is the point ... “I say to the Republicans out there — congressmen, senators — if they don’t give you massive cuts, you’re going to have to do a default,” said Trump, who is again running for president. [...] When pushed by CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins to clarify his remarks, Trump said: “Well, you might as well do it now, because you’ll do it later. Because we have to save this country. Our country is dying. Our country is being destroyed by stupid people, by very stupid people.” www.cnbc.com/... More self-projection, from the GQP? To wit ... Could he stop lying about the 2020 election? Did he regret his role in the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021? [...] No and no. Emphatically no [...] He repeated much of what he’s said previously. Trump blamed others for the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol. He lied about the timeline of that day, suggesting he had called for his supporters to stand down earlier than he actually did. And he again criticized former Vice President Mike Pence for not trying to overturn the election results. www.cnn.com/... Leopard, Spots, Camera, TV, Tear-it-all-Down …. Trump. S.S.D.D. Same Shithead, Different Day … “Hmm, How can I stay out of Jail … ??? I know, just get Elected again, and then Pardon myself — yeah, that’s the ticket!” — By re-platforming Trump as if he is just some “normal” Candidate, these media companies are providing the rocket fuel to America’s ultimate demise. Trump is not normal. Trump is a direct threat to America. Financially, constitutionally, morally. Trump IS the lowest common denominator. If his ceaseless threats are any indication. CNN — Former President reinstate him to power Saturday in a continuation of his election denialism and pushing of fringe conspiracy theories. Former President Donald Trump called for the termination of the Constitution to overturn the 2020 election andSaturday in a continuation of his election denialism and pushing of fringe conspiracy theories. “Do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution ,” Trump wrote in a post on the social network Truth Social and accused “Big Tech” of working closely with Democrats. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!” [...] www.cnn.com/… — 12/04/2022 Treating these repeated Constitutional threats otherwise, will not make any of his threats go away. Giving him air time, only inflames his delusions of grandeur. Giving him all the oxygen in the room, is what got him elected in the first place. “If it screeds, it leads” … poor Jeb never stood a chance. He was too “normal.” Media companies should take note, and learn from there “naive mistakes” of the past. They should treat this “defiant Loser” as the ongoing threat to democracy, and the moral pariah that he has proven himself to be, time and time again. Perhaps, actually “give equal air time” to the other “normal” candidates — without a constitutional axe to grind ... While they still have that opportunity to use their “editorial discretion” … to elevate certain other calmer voices, over this proven miscreant … Funny, aren’t the Free Press and the Post Office, the ONLY businesses directly authorized by the Constitution … Well, apparently not in Trump’s universe. President Trump, in an extraordinary rebuke of the nation’s press organizations, wrote on Twitter on Friday that the nation’s news media “ is the enemy of the American people .” Even by the standards of a president who routinely castigates journalists — and who on Thursday devoted much of a 77-minute news conference to criticizing his press coverage — Mr. Trump’s tweet was a striking escalation in his attacks. www.nytimes.com/… — 02/17/2017 “When a person shows you who they really are — we should believe them the first time.” — Maya Angelou Before it’s too late. That “Enemy of People” moniker is only another Twitter rant away. Maybe Editorial Boardrooms across the nation, should take that under advisement, this 2nd time around? Could be. — — “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.” [...] “And you consider yourself to be a star?” Kaplan asked. “I think you can say that , yeah,” Trump replied. — LawandCrime.com, from Trump’s video tape deposition, in Civil Trial against him. The time for “giving this guy a pass” — should be OVER. So over. Sadly though, too many Media companies would rather chase ratings, rather than pursue the facts, as ephemeral as those pandering efforts ultimately turn out to be. Just ask Fox News about their recent $787 Million dollar folly, when they turned a blind eye to real world facts. … “a leopard never changes its spots” — no matter hold many rehabilitation tours he may take — or is given. Some fake politicians, neither. — — [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/5/20/2170439/-Trump-s-Constitutional-Threats-must-Not-be-Normalized Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
