I'm not sure whether I wrote what ultimately became of that but it did not go well. The final result I got was nothing like I envisioned nor wanted. To compound the issue, the company would not offer me any sort of refund of the money I paid them which was quite a bit. I later found another company who also did commission videos and purchased a commission from them. They told me the scene I request could not be too detailed, so I pared down my outline. I also told them I only required three specific plot points including how I wanted the video to end. With the exception of the ending (the most important part), the video was pretty close to what I envisioned. They did apologize for getting the ending wrong which I appreciated. I will probably use them for a future project and more clearly delineate the specifics I request. Recently, I decided to try a different type of commission. There's a blogger/writer I enjoy reading who took a two year hiatus during the pandemic. He recently began writing again. I commented on his most recent story inquiring about commissioning a story from him. He replied requesting I email him to discuss. I sent him two different requests either a bare bones scenario using any of the characters in his universe of characters or a story involving two specific characters in a new version of a story he had previously written. I offered to pay him what he felt his time was worth for the story. Apart from that, he could craft the story however he wanted. He replied saying one of my ideas fit perfectly in the plans he had for the stories he was writing for next year's posts. Apparently my idea really inspired him because I received a first draft of the story within two weeks of my request. What he wrote far exceeded my expectations. To say I was please with the draft, would be the understatement of the year. I offered to make proofreading edits with the caveat that he could accept or reject them at his pleasure. I also caught a continuity issue in the story and noted a couple of items that could use more clarity in language. He thanked me for the help. I again offered to pay him for the work, but he declined my offer saying he enjoyed writing the story too much to ask for payment. I accepted his desire not to take a payment and offered to buy him a meal if he ever came to NYC as a way of thanking him. So after three attempts at commissioning a work, I finally received something which I enjoyed wholeheartedly with no negative aspects to it. As I wrote earlier, I may try again with the second video company to get something made which follows the details I want. I would ask the writer for another work, but after.he wrote about experiencing a burnout a couple of years ago, I wouldn't want to contribute to him having another burnout as I enjoy his writing immensely. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend, everyone, and I will see you next week. Diarist reserves all rights to his original writing only.
