In the tradition of Ed Tracey, I’m providing updates to some of my posts from the past year or so. But first, some formalities: Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find! 1. The first update is on my post from November 11, 2021 about our experiences with local coyotes. In that diary, I described how coyotes dragged a squirrel trap (complete with squirrel) away, and while we found a squirrel trap behind our yard, it wasn’t the one we bought. We had given up looking for the trap, and, indeed had forgotten about it, when we decided last year to repair the existing fence, and install new fencing in the back so that our dog Sofy would be able to explore the yard without a leash. As part of the existing fence at the back that needed repair was behind a large shrub, the shrub had to be removed. We had our lawn maintenance guy remove it. Afterward, as went to see his handiwork, there it was: the missing squirrel trap! Somehow, the coyotes had dragged the trap into the shrub and abandoned it there, presumably after getting the squirrel. As for the coyotes themselves, we’ve seen and heard almost nothing from them in the past year. The fence won’t keep them out if they’re determined (and for that reason, we always have to keep an eye on the dog when she’s in the yard, particularly at night), but their presence is not as apparent as it was when we first moved here nearly 2 years ago. 2. Next up, we bring you up-to-date on our solar panels. Well, not so much the solar panels as the contractor we hired to install them. This was worth two diaries describing the tribulations and extra expenses, here and here. Earlier this year, Hubby (who spearheaded the solar project) received a letter from a law firm stating that the contractor had declared bankruptcy, which made us very happy, The letter stated that we could pursue legal action if we had a claim against the company. While the installation of our array took a ridiculous amount of time to complete, or even to get started once the contract was signed, since the work was finished, it has been operating as expected, so we are not pursuing such action. Since the arrival of that letter, we have been getting updates from the firm describing assets owned by the contractor which are up for grabs. It appears to be a real shit show, and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving company, in our opinion. We’re just glad the job was finished before the collapse. 3. Finally, there’s my account of learning how to become a gopher hunter, published just this past March. As of today, I have bagged 21 of the little pests. With Hubby still hobbled by his healing Achilles’ tendon, I may have to take double duty and start setting the squirrel traps as well. There are now at least as many squirrel holes now as there are gopher mounds. That’s all I have to report tonight. Comments are below the fold.
