A lot of people here have been saying saying that Biden should have invoked the 14th Amendment and said that the validity of the public debt shall not be questioned, essentially telling the Republicans to pound sand as far as the debt limit is concerned. My question for those people is, do you really think that the Republicans in Congress would have just accepted that and gone about their business? Or do you think they would have filed suit in federal court? Meaning the Supreme Court and its six Federalist Society judges would have been making the decision on what “questioning the validity of the public debt” actually means in a legal sense. Considering the number of precedent-shattering decisions they’ve handed down since 2021, including overturning Roe v Wade, I certainly don’t want to put my trust in what they might decide, especially with all the news about corruption in the SCOTUS that’s been coming out recently. I think it’s explicitly dangerous to do so, with it becoming more and more clear that those six justices are making decisions at least in part based on whose “donated” the most to them. I want the debt limit gone as much as anyone else, but trying to do so via a ruling from the Roberts court is risky, to say the least. I’m not going to say that it couldn’t have worked out the way people here have been saying, but we’re living in interesting times, to say the least. So I do not believe we should leave the interpretation of that part of the 14th Amendment to six Federalist Society justices.
