Religious Right’s Apocalypse Industry Thriving Because End of Times Never Occurs [1]

Humans have been beating the drum about the End Times, since perhaps the beginning of time. According to Smithsonian magazine’s Mark Strauss, “An Assyrian clay tablet dating to around 2800 B.C. bears the inscription: ‘Our Earth is degenerate in these later days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents; every man wants to write a book and the end of the world is evidently approaching.’”

While the world didn’t end at that time, the Assyrian empire eventually did. In 612 B.C, some 18 centuries later, the Babylonian army attacked its capital, and the Assyrian empire was crushed. The world moved on.

Troy Anderson a Pulitzer Prize-nominated investigative journalist, has written or co-authored three books warning that The End Times is just around the corner. He is co-author, with Paul McGuire, of The Babylon Code: Solving the Bible's Greatest End-Times Mystery; author ofTrumpocalypse: The End-Times President, a Battle Against the Globalist Elite; and theCountdown to Armageddon; and co-author, with retired U.S. Army Chaplain and Colonel David Giammona,of The Military Guide to Armageddon; Battle-Tested Strategies to Prepare Your Life and Soul for the End Times.

Theadvertising for all three books don’t mince words. Babylon“reveals how powerful national, international, and secret forces are at work to create a global government, economic system, and religion.”

Trumpocalypse“is an explosive exposé of the chilling truth about the fierce opposition to the Trump presidency, and why the globalist elite and Deep State will stop at nothing-assassination, military coup, staged economic collapse, or worse-to overthrow him.”

Anderson’s book, The Military Guide to Armageddonasserts: “The forces of light and darkness are lined up in battle array as the world moves closer to the end of the age.”

Over the years, many have taken to predicting the End of Times. Religious leaders, writers, filmmakers, televangelists, have all offered one version or another of the end of the world. The marketing of end-of-the-world-prophesies has resulted in daily television broadcasts, podcasts, YouTube videos, best-selling books, movies, and survival kits.

Anderson’s resume also includes being the former executive editor of Charisma magazine, one of leading Christian evangelical publications in the world, senior editor of GODSPEED Magazine, and, he's the founder and editor in chief of Prophecy Investigators (www.prophecyinvestigators.org) and vice president of Battle Ready Ministries (www.battle-ready.org).

The End of Times through the years

In 1213, Pope Innocent III, recruiting for another round of Crusades, wrote: “A son of perdition has arisen, the false prophet Muhammed, who has seduced many men from the truth by worldly enticements and the pleasures of the flesh… we nevertheless put our trust in the Lord who has already given us a sign that good is to come, that the end of this beast is approaching, whose number, according to the Revelation of Saint John, will end in 666 years, of which already nearly 600 have passed.”

The predicted date, 1284, came and went, as did the last crusader kingdom. The world, however, remained intact.

When dark skies threatened Europe, writers boosted sales of their books by predicting earth’s doom. Some claimed Halley’s comet contained poisonous gas. Then there was the Jupiter Effect and Y2K. More recently, the late Harold Camping’s cock-sure prediction of the end of times fell flat, resulting in some of his followers losing their life savings, property and relationships.

Troy Anderson’s vision

Troy Anderson (https://troyanderson.us/) appears sincere in his beliefs. He’s not a purveyor of Harold Camping-esque End Times predictions, obviously savvy enough not to be trapped into telling us exactly when The End Times is coming.

He will, however, tell you that there are abundant signs, that it could be any day now: “The signs—the last of the four blood moons, the biblical Shemitah, rise of end-time ‘Babylon,’ the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage, the dangerous Iranian nuclear deal and a world drowning in debt and dangling on the edge of economic catastrophe—seem unmistakable now,” he has written.

Anderson, along with c-author Col. David Giammona, appeared on episodes of the Jim Bakker Show titled “Armageddon is Coming. Are You Prepared?” Anderson also appeared on CBN News’ Global Lane with host Gary Lane.

In addition to writing books, Troy Anderson Literary Services, offers services as a “co-author, ghostwrite[r] and edit[or of] books for ministers, celebrities, military leaders, experts, literary agents, publishing houses, and others.”

In Business & Politics column titled “Awakening Christ’s followers amid growing persecution, ‘Cancel Culture’ and the ‘Great Reset,’” Anderson and Giammona wrote: “As detailed in our new bestselling book – The Military Guide to Armageddon… – we believe the pandemic is just the first in a series of ‘birth pains’ that will ultimately lead to the Battle of Armageddon and return of Christ. As these ‘birth pains’ intensify, we should prepare for events of greater magnitude than the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In a recent Facebook post Anderson wrote: “I got to meet one of my heroes this week at the NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) convention in Orlando - nationally syndicated radio talk show host Dennis Prager. When I was a reporter at the Los Angeles Daily News about two decades ago, Prager invited several thousand of his listeners to the Board of Supervisors meeting to protest the removal of a Christian cross from the county seal. He told me, ‘It was the most encouraging day of my career.’ At the time, I had written over 100 stories about the battle to keep the cross on the county seal. I told him it was the biggest response I'd ever seen to my reporting.

“Later, when the legal battle to keep the cross on the county seal failed, I remembered asking a Thomas More Law Center attorney where it was all headed. He said something I'll never forget, ‘It will all end in violence.’ It's certainly proved prophetic. Since then, we've seen the removal of crosses, Ten Commandment plaques and other Christian symbols throughout the nation, as well as the emergence of the ‘Cancel Culture.’ At NRB, I thanked Mr. Prager for standing for the truth, for standing with Christians even though he's Jewish, and for his contributions in helping to maintain the Judeo-Christian foundations of America. God bless you Mr. Prager! What a great honor!”

Before the Battle of Armageddon, however, there are books to sell. And, given that the Charisma magazine website that featured Anderson’s story carried advertisements for investing in Solar panels for homes – an investment that will take a while to pay off -- leadership training that “will positively impact your church, business or ministry,” and subscriptions to the magazine, the End Times could still be a ways off.
