[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-06-03 According to a poll that came out a few days ago by Data For Progress, 74 percent of all voters support a $20 an hour minimum wage, truthout.org/… The breakdown in support is 89 percent of all Democrats supporting the idea, and 74 percent of all independents backing the measure. Some 60 percent of Republicans (!) endorsed the rate as well. Other findings of the poll include: * 63 percent of those surveyed said wages of more than $20 an hour were necessary to enjoy a decent life. A slightly higher 76 percent supported Senator Sanders's legislation to raise the minimum rate to $17 an hour. While this idea is a non-starter with this Congress, a coalition in Massachusetts is pressing legislation to raise the minimum wage to $20 by 2027, www.metrowestdailynews.com/...A California state ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage to $18 an hour qualified for the 2024 ballot, calmatters.org/… Signatures are being gathered to put an $ 18-an-hour initiative on the Arizona ballot in 2024, ballotpedia.org/… I know that a poll is not binding but this one shows that the voters are far ahead of the politicians on this issue.
