WYFP: Attacking The Right To Protest [1]

Just when I had an easy open thread planned, the news

shows me a story I have to bring to your attention.

On Wednesday, Atlanta police arrested 3 members of the Atlanta Solidarity Fund, a non-profit organization that raises bail money for people arrested for protesting or activism.

Their crime? raising money for protestors arrested at cop city, the planned “police training facility” where activist “Tortuguita” was killed last January. ASF is one of a hundred such organizations around the country raising money to help people protesting who cannot afford bail.

Think about the implications of that becoming standard operating procedure on the part of cops and you’ll realize they are attempting to criminalize our 1st amendment rights.

ASF has existed for seven years, long before plans for cop city. This is a naked attempt to stifle dissent. If you would like to support Atlanta Solidarity Fund, click here.

Update: On Friday, a judge denied an effort by prosecutors to hold Marlon Kautz, Adele MacLean, and Savannah Patterson.

Atlanta City Council is expected to vote Monday whether to go forward with plans that could cost the city an estimated $50-70 Million dollars.
