Rich Lowry also offers up an absurd argument for Biden to pardon Trump [1]

I saw a headline in Politico about an opinion piece titled A Trump Pardon Could Drain Poison from the System, clicked on the link and saw that Rich Lowry of the National Review had vomited up hundreds of words. www.politico.com/…

This is absurd. I’ll be brief and give you a few high points.

The middle of a primary campaign is not the best place to carefully think through the various equities involved in the criminal case against Trump and potential clemency, but the idea of pardoning Trump is a sensible one that, depending on the exact circumstances, truly could serve the public interest.

What?

The bind represented by Trump’s indictment is that, based on the evidence we have now, he appears to be caught dead to rights; at the same time, nothing good is going to come from the political and legal warfare inevitable with the prosecution by the U.S. government of the leader of the opposition party.

I thought Lowry was a never-Trumper. Or certainly thought him unfit to be President. This is the kind of blackmail the Repubs are famous for, and frankly, I don’t think Jack Smith gives two shits about Trump and his baffled and confused base, the spineless cowards in Congress, the right-wing grievance media, or even Judge Cannon. However, Trump and the GOP are going to have to be beaten at the ballot box. Soundly.

In conclusion. No, we don’t want unity!! No, we don’t want to meet you halfway!! We want you to be forced into a fully, functioning democracy, then watch as the Dems do it!! In a fight that requires guns, you don’t bring a knife (metaphorically). And the ‘24 election is a fight that has been brewing since 2008, when Obama became President. The seething under current of racism has since morphed into homophobia, sexism, and nationalism. And now the GOP is doubling down!!

The election of 1932 was seismic and I think the ‘24 election can be also. Thanks
