R.I.P. Teresa Taylor (aka Teresa Nervosa) actress and drummer (Butthole Surfers); dead at 60. [1]

Teresa Taylor had been in hospice for a few months. She passed this week. Actress and drummer for acid damaged psychedelic punk rockers, Butthole Surfers.

R.I.P. Hope you’re drumming in the ether Teresa. Peace girl.

The cause was lung disease. Taylor was 60. In 2021, Taylor posted on Facebook about living with an “end stage” lung condition and having a “one-to-five [year] life expectancy.” She wrote at the time: “I know I smoked like a chimney and this is to be expected. My spirits are up.” Taylor, from Arlington, Texas, performed in various high school marching bands as a kid alongside King Coffey, another eventual Butthole Surfers drummer. She drummed with the band during a core stretch from 1983 to 1989, including on their celebrated albums Psychic… Powerless… Another Man’s Sac and Locust Abortion Technician. She contributed to the band’s signature sound as one of two drummers playing in unison on separate kits, alongside Coffey. In 1989, she suffered from a brain aneurysm and, after brain surgery, began experiencing seizures. While famous as a musician, Taylor is also iconic for her cameo in the 1991 Richard Linklater film Slacker, in which she played the part of a woman peddling Madonna’s pap smear on the street. She appeared on the film’s poster and promotional items for the movie. “Teresa was a badass drummer and totally unique character,” Linklater says in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Smart, funny, energetic – she meant so much to all who knew her. One of the greats.” — Rolling Stone

Live July 4th 1989, Washington DC National Mall

On stage, relatively safe, 3 feet behind Paul Leary's amp was the perfect place to be this night. massive crowd as far as you can see...Pandemonium and chaos was expected and was delivered although there were serious tech problems from the start...namely Gibby's mic. Ultimately the plug was pulled and the show was stopped by the authorities...approx only 35 minutes in. Then cops on horseback threw everybody out. PS: I had battery and camera problems all night but did manage to get these full songs. This 4th of July 1989 Free concert was a smoke-in sponsored by NORML and was basically just a further continuation of the "Rock Against Reagan" concerts that were getting traditional. We hung with the Buttholes in their tiny trailer until showtime, then all Hell broke out. — YT
