The Best Thing about Prigozhin's Run [1]

Dmitri of War Translated provided captioned text of the warlord Prigozihn’s speech to the camera on June 23, the day the counter-invasion of Russia by the Russia’s Wagner forces began. In my opinion, this speech should be sent to every tankie or Russia supporting politician. Here is the link to the first part, the second part, and the third part.

Of course, rather than calling out Putin, Prigozihn blames the Ministry of Defense (MOD) and the greedy oligarchs for starting the war with Ukraine. But the result is the same: he directly calls BS on denazification, demilitarisation, and the supposed threat from NATO — all excuses made by Putin. Instead, Prigozihn cites the real reason for the invasion as greed for plunder: Kremlin cronies who weren’t happy just plundering part of the Donbas region, but wanted much more, if not all of Ukraine to loot. This is a highly plausible, if partial, explanation, and it’s an explanation the Russian people and Putin-enablers elsewhere need to hear.

I sort of discount Prigo’s explanation of the Ministry of Defense wanting more stars and bars. I think Putin’s grandiose dreams of greater imperial Russia are a larger part of the full explanation for the war. But the plundering of Donbas, rather than its supposed rescue, is a story that many need to hear.

Finally, warlord Prigozhin’s rant casts the Ukrainian counter-offensive so far as highly successful. This could be an attempt just to dig further at the Ministry of Defense, but I suspect, and certainly hope, that it is accurate!
