[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-06-26 For this week, I will repeat some garden information, and tell you about my organizing efforts inside. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at, to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off Daily Kos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on Daily Kos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! This is our current schedule of regular IAN diary writers: Monday: Youffraita Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac Wednesday: Pam from Calif Thursday: art ah zen Friday: FloridaSNMOM Saturday: FloridaSNDad Sunday: loggersbrat First, here is more information about habanero peppers: en.wikipedia.org/… Habaneros thrive in hot weather. Like all peppers, the habanero does well in an area with good morning sun and in soil with a pH level around 5 to 6 (slightly acidic). Habaneros which are watered daily produce more vegetative growth but the same number of fruit, with lower concentrations of capsaicin, as compared to plants which are watered only when dry (every seven days).[12] Overly moist soil and roots will produce bitter-tasting peppers. Daily watering during flowering and early setting of fruit helps prevent flower and immature fruit from dropping, but flower dropping rates often reach 90% even in ideal conditions.[12] Okay, watering my pepper plants too much will produce bitter-tasting peppers? Really? The habanero is a perennial flowering plant, meaning that with proper care and growing conditions, it can produce flowers (and thus fruit) for many years. Habanero bushes are good candidates for a container garden. In temperate climates, though, it is treated as an annual, dying each winter and being replaced the next spring. In tropical and subtropical regions, the habanero, like other chiles, will produce year round. As long as conditions are favorable, the plant will set fruit continuously.[citation needed] Okay, I could get me a big pot, and move my pepper plants indoors, in the fall? But, if I get a nice crop of ten or twenty peppers, that will last me for at least one year, maybe two. en.wikipedia.org/… As you can see, habaneros are very high on the Scoville scale, so a little goes a long way. Cucumber report: My cucumber plants look so thick and green, but so far I only see two baby cucumbers. One of my neighbors has three very large cucumbers already. He planted his sooner than I planted mine. Tomato report: I have ten or twenty small tomatoes, getting bigger every day. All of them are green, so far. Yesterday, I pulled up all my little tags from my tomato plants, one by one, and wrote down on my little notebook, exactly what they say: Fourth of July Kellogg’s Breakfast (orange beefsteak) Big Beef Plus hybrid Celebrity Plus hybrid So, one of them will give me orange tomatoes, and the rest will give me red. No little cherry tomatoes. Now, for the organizing inside: Just a few hours ago, I assembled one of these: www.walmart.com/… Better Homes & Gardens 12-Cube Storage Organizer, Tobacco Oak $108.00 I bought one just like it a few months ago. I plan to buy one more, in the middle of July. When I get done, I will have, in my living room, two of those Walmart bookcases, stacked on top of each other, two of my bookcases hand made by me, 40 years ago, stacked on top of each other, and one more Walmart bookcase, on the floor under a window, and another of my 40 year old bookcases, next to my desk. That is about a 20 foot stretch of wall. Looking from left to right, tall, tall, short, short, if you can visualize that. I might buy me a nice camera, and start making YouTube videos, in the middle of July. Then I can show you. Both upper bookcases will be decorated, three shelves high, with family photos, carefully curated and placed in carefully chosen frames. aaz might decorate some of the frames for me. By the way, the picture at the top looks similar to one of my hand made bookcases. But, I have no cat. I simply talk to all the cats outside, when I go for a walk. And, I have no actual books on my bookcases. Just bankers boxes, on the lower half, and family pictures, on the upper half. Well, I think I will eat me some ginger snaps, soaked in milk. It only takes a few minutes for them to get nice and soft. Take care of yourselves, and each other, and eat tasty foods. Hugs!
