Ghana- Abandoned 4 Year Old Anabel Update [1]

Anabel is a little girl in Ghana who was abandoned by her mentally ill mother at 3 years of age. She was brought to my friend John, who took her to a nursery for small children whose parents cannot care for them. She has been in this safe place for perhaps eight months now.

Our goal is to get her into school and hopefully to reunite her with her mother when the mother is once again able to take care of her.

Since she has been there Anabel has had her fourth birthday and recently had a bad case of the measles, which was scary but fortunately she is all well now and doing fine.

Due to his own serious health crisis this month John hasn’t been able to do much for the many people he has been helping but we have been careful to make certain that Anabel, at least, is provided for. She simply has no one else to help her and no place else to go. But for now she is safe.

John himself has his problems. He is still recovering from surgery and remains weak. He has been evicted from the place he has been renting and is presently living on the beach in Accra. Hopefully next month we can get him back in his home but right now that is simply impossible.

Also because of John’s problems I have neglected my responsibilities to others in other parts of Africa and they are in desperate need. So for the time being things in Ghana must be placed on a bare-bones try-to-hang-on level.

At any rate, last week John sent me some current pictures of Anabel and I thought y’all might like to see them. She is looking well and happy. And cute. A great improvement over her look when John first found her.

The last, bottom picture is Anabel when she was brought to John back in October. The one above and the one for the story picture are Anabel today.
