DK Quilt Guild: Tales of woe with a simple panel baby quilt [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-02 DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too. We NEED diarists! Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)… We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance. We NEED diarists! I’ve been trying to do a basic baby quilt with a Disney focus. Her parents are major Disney lovers. So I thought, easy peasy, a basic panel and some augmentation and it’s done. Little did I know. Disney Princess panels aren’t as common as you might think. Local quilts stores don’t have them; JoAnn doesn’t have them. So I go the Amazon because of quick shipping. I order and get my first panel. The panel is cut out such that it cuts into the the panel, slicing a heart in half. I send it back to Amazon, pointing out the incorrect cutting. Four days later, I get another panel back. It is cut correctly, just barely. So I go to work. I have the top and bottom borders done (the small squares) and start the side borders, but things aren’t lining up. I figure somehow I cut it wrong. It is off by ½ inch. Not likely I’d mess up that badly, but maybe the ruler slipped majorly and I didn’t notice somehow. I work on it for a couple of hours and realize the panel was printed wrong. It was printed on a slight diagonal. Obviously a second. I give up with Amazon and go to Etsy, where I should have gone to begin with. I order a better version of Disney Princesses and it arrives, cut out correctly, with a proper border. Now, before I begin too much work, I make sure it is square and I use a Frixion pen to mark out where I’m cutting. All is fine. So I put it together. I have already got the 2.5” squares from last attempt, so I add them to this quilt, with the narrow purple divide, add the borders and it’s done. Still takes a bit more time than usual as I am double checking everything. Below is the back. It has more Disney Princesses. It only has one border on it, because my back is getting cranky. I’ll put the other 3 borders on it tomorrow, do final ironing and off it goes. I’m using borders on the back to get the size to match the front, 40” by 50”. I didn’t want to piece it with all the detail in the design. So thankfully, tomorrow it will be all done and out of the house. What are you quilting?
