Kos Diabetes Group: Not really a diary diary [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-07 I’d like to apologize for the lack of a good informative diary this week. About ten days ago our basement flooded — first ground water from a failed foundation drainage system, then the next day a broken pipe in basement ceiling between the inside wall and outside wall that fed our outdoor spigot. BIG MESS! We were able to turn off the water and a plumber was able to fix that pipe the next morning. Waterproofing folks started on July 5. My husband, son and I packed up seven large bookshelves full of books (about 75 boxes) and a bunch of other stuff. We had movers take the bookshelves and other furniture out to storage. There is currently a trench in the basement around the perimeter of the outside walls where they are putting in new drainage. (I love the sound of jackhammers in my basement.) Drywall and carpet will need to be replaced when they have the new drainage system in place and poured cement over it. Cement could possible happen Friday. While everything is all ripped up we decided to have the plumber come and replace our water heater. It’s 12 years old and their expected life span is 10-15 so it’s time to get it done before that decides to die on us. Between all the packing and moving of stuff in preparation for the the drain system work and dealing with insurance and other things, I have not had time to finish up the diary I was working on. Maybe next week things won’t be so hectic and I’ll be able to spend some time on it. I have been so stressed since all of this happened that my numbers have been terrible. I’ve been trying really hard to eat at my normal times and do everything I should but my numbers have been awful. Meals that usually come in around 130 have been 160-170. I’m sure my A1c will be up in August when I go to the doctor because of this. Oh, well. All I can do is keep trying to do my best. This will all pass and everything will get back to what passes for normal in this house in a couple more weeks. Hope your summer is going better than mine has so far.
