[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-15 This ad is so good. It makes me think that between the genius behind this, unknown to me at this time, and the wonderfully talented young person behind the John Fetterman messaging in Pennsylvania, Sophie Ota, we might have finally turned the corner on how to frame issues. Hit them where it hurts. In this case, between the legs. x Who said all political ads are boring? This is probably the hottest political ad you’ll ever see. OHIO vote NO on August 8th 🔥 pic.twitter.com/nGv4Q8LUrT — Christopher Webb (@cwebbonline) July 15, 2023 I do not know who is behind this masterpiece, but along with Ms. Ota, I want them to run 2024. The whole thing. All of it. Every race. A bit of context on this special election in August in Ohio: At its core, Issue 1 asks Ohioans if we should throw out the sacred principle of one person, one vote. One person, one vote is the cornerstone of democracy. It ensures everyone’s vote is equal, and that a simple majority rules. Without one person one vote, we are no longer a functional democracy – rather a disturbing inversion where a small number of people decide how the majority must live. By requiring 60% support for future amendments, Ohioans’ votes and voices will no longer be equal. That’s not hyperbole, that’s math. If Issue 1 passes, future amendments will need to reach 60% - and that means any future “NO” effort, only needs to hit 40%+1 of the popular vote. When one side has to get to 60% and the other side only needs to get to 40% that shakes out to every NO vote being worth 1.5 YES votes. Essentially, Issue 1 installs a filibuster in Ohio’s Constitution. That is not right. More on Sophie Ota: If you’ve been entertained by Senator-elect John Fetterman’s social media presence and trolling of his Trump-backed opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz, you partly have Sophie Ota to thank. At 26, Ota serves as the digital director of Fetterman for PA, a campaign that has harnessed the power of humor and authenticity to set a new standard for the use of social media in politics — and managed to flip a Senate seat in purple Pennsylvania. The power of Fetterman’s social media strategy, Ota says, is that it was entirely in his voice. She created a “voice guide” that included expressions Fetterman is partial to using, plus his favorite emoji (the smiling face with three hearts — “He uses it all the time”), and favorite turns of phrase (“the Union Way of Life — we always capitalize it"). To Ota, these patterns are as distinct to Fetterman (she refers to him as “John”) as the fact that he met President Joe Biden while wearing shorts in winter. Truly we can win any race with our talent and platform if we can only frame correctly. I would love to know who is behind the Ohio brilliance. Let me know in the comments if you find out so I can honor them in my newsletter. It truly is the Age of Aquarius, so long as we are not afraid to let the sun shine in. -ROC I need to add to my The Claw News family.
