[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-17 For some years, I have often looked at this website: www.worldometers.info/… A few days ago, I got a surprise when I looked at the numbers there. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at, to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off Daily Kos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on Daily Kos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! This is our current schedule of regular IAN diary writers: Monday: Youffraita Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac Wednesday: Pam from Calif Thursday: art ah zen Friday: FloridaSNMOM Saturday: FloridaSNDad Sunday: loggersbrat For a very long time, maybe fifty or 100 years, the top two countries in the world, in population, have been, China number one, India number two. They have now switched. Another thing I noticed a while back, is that the population of Japan has been going down, lately. On my Monday, at about 2 AM, I wrote down the population of certain countries. About ten minutes later, I wrote down the population of those same countries, again. About twenty hours later, at about 10 PM, I wrote down the population of those countries, again. (That website gives us live numbers, always changing.) I think it is interesting, to see what is happening in the world: India, at about 1,429,000,000: Ten minutes, up 231. Twenty hours, up 29,694. China, at about 1,425,000,000: Ten minutes, down 9. Twenty hours, down 1,123. USA, at about 340,000,000: Ten minutes, up 31. Twenty hours, up 4,132. Indonesia (a group of islands, like Japan, limited land area) at about 277,000,000: Ten minutes, up 38. Twenty hours, up 5,140. Russia (in the news lately) at about 144,000,000: Ten minutes, down 7. Twenty hours, down 1,110. Mexico (right next door) at about 128,000,000: Ten minutes, up 14. Twenty hours, up 2,166. Japan, at about 123,000,000: Ten minutes, down 9. Twenty hours, down 1,511. Germany, at about 83,000,000: Ten minutes, down 1. Twenty hours, down 96. Overall, we have been adding about 80 million to our human population, every year, for many decades. This is, of course, the main driver of the global warming emergency. But the many Daily Kos diaries on global warming fail to mention it. I got myself a vasectomy back in 1977. I have zero children. If anyone feels that there is no way, culturally, to turn the population growth around, and make it go down, not up, they are slamming the culture of China, Japan, and Germany. (Russia may be suffering stress, rather than a cultural shift.) I do not hate the culture of India, or any country that is going up. But I feel that all the countries going up, need to consider a cultural shift, to find a way to make it go down. Hey, exciting news! I called my sister-in-law, Ratana, to ask for her help, in lifting my new A/C window unit into my window, in the living room. For two years, I have been getting by with a 5,000 BTU unit. The weather has been extra humid lately (global warming) here in Wichita, Kansas, (it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity) and I decided to upgrade my home. I got me a 14,500 BTU unit. With Ratana’s help, we got it installed and humming along. Icy cold! The smaller unit is sitting on the floor in the bedroom. I have my twin bed in the living room, and a queen size bed in the bedroom (the last bed that Tonia and I used). I sleep in the living room, which makes the bedroom a guest room. Soon, I will install the smaller unit in the bedroom window. That way, if any close or extended family members, such as Ratana and her husband and kids, if they need a place to stay for a few days, it will be nice and cool. Well, take care of yourselves, and each other. And eat zucchini and Ro*Tel stew. And ice cream. And chocolate. And popcorn. Hugs! Oh, and here is a nice music video, from my Sunday Music of 1993 diary: We all end in the ocean We all start in the streams We're all carried along By the river of dreams In the middle of the night Hugs!
