Top Comments: Shania Twain Concert Edition [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-18 A couple of weeks ago I went to see Shania Twain in concert up at Bethel Woods, the site of the original Woodstock Festival. I have been a long time fan of her music but had never seen in concert. To say she puts on a good show is highly understating her performance. She sang all her classic hits (YAY!) and sounded great. Her band and dancers were excellent. I especially liked that she had a female drummer which is a rarity for bands, and one of her dancers/backup singers did not have the look of a typical dancer being that he was slightly overweight. Above the concert stage before she and the opening act went on, the electronic sign was a rainbow and had a message welcoming all LGBTQ+ fans to the concert. Considering the area of NY the concert was held, it was surprising, but welcome to see such a message of support. I do wonder how much of the crowd noticed it and how many people may have been offended. I was also surprised she had only one costume change. I had figured there would be quite a few like when I saw Dolly Parton in concert. The only costume change she did make was to put on the exact outfit she wore 25 years ago when she filmed the original video or at least that’s what she told the crowd. She also brought up a few audience members onto the stage and interacted a bit with them. A very nice gesture. As I do not listen to much contemporary music of any genre anymore, I did not know the opening act. Priscilla Brock opened for her. She was a proud, full figured woman who had a good stage presence. One thing I am becoming increasingly disappointed in seeing concerts is how often the volume of the singers’ mics are generally too quiet to be heard well above the music. While Shania did not have this problem, Ms. Brock did. Ergo, I missed a lot of the lyrics to her songs. Because the venue is an outdoor ampitheatre, Shania was delayed nearly an hour due to a severe thunderstorm that was passing over the area. Thankfully, we were sitting under the pavillion, so we did not get wet nor did we have to go back to the car like the people who had lawn tickets because of the potential for lightning. Because of the rural nature of the area, the exit to leave was just a two lane road leading to a two lane highway, so it took nearly an hour from getting to our car to pass my family’s farm 2 miles away and then another 30 minutes to get to the main highway 10 away in Monticello. Rough. lol Anyway, we are planning to see The Chicks next month. It will be my second time seeing them. I am really excited. Hope you all had a nice day enjoying the legal news being released.
