[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-23 A few months passed and lots of interesting distractions have happened. I’ve shared many of my tales on Dkos and will not ramble on about those times. Today, I want to share the fun day I had on July 9th, 2023. Between the threat of storms, I decided to return to the lower lake at Sardis Dam in Panola County, MS. I sat in one place for an hour and had fruitful morning. Here is an aerial image of my position. south shore of the lower Sardis Lake, MS. The map/image shows that I saw a Cormorant. It was a juvenile with it’s mom. I liked that it was on a perch because I got to see it’s huge feet. The expression of it’s face showed joy. Further (an almost direct line) two juvenile Eagles were perched. There were other birds around and they are heard on the videos below. However, I was captivated by the young hunters. juvenile on the left of the title photo juvenile on the right side of the title photo This 1:12 minute video shows the pair doing some light grooming as the day began. The Eagle on the left, opened it’s wings and posed for a wonderful easy moment of filming. A Mockingbird fills the background with mimics of it’s neighbors. 35 seconds of lazing about. After a while a group of Blue Jays harassed the eagles. I almost missed the interaction because the baldies were not very impressed by the marauders. Here is the 1:30 minute film. I boxed up my gear and headed for home. I spotted a group of birds sitting on a dead shrub on the shore line. I saw that they were Tree Swallows and had been skimming the water’s edge. I got this photo before they returned to their task. It would have been nice to get some photos of them zooming and dipping over the water (photos like Appy’s). Not going to happen for me. Tree Swallows ready to attack the day. If you look hard at the films, you’ll see there are dragonflies in the air. I didn’t get any new shots but want to share two photos of fliers common to my area. Pondhawk Yellow-sided Skimmer Now, it is your turn to show your work. Please share any of your birding adventures with us. I wrote my diary over a week ago. So, I want to add this photo from yesterday. I love this image and hope you will enjoy it. The surprise may be the species (which I will disclose in the comments).
