Best songs that are more than one song [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-07-29 There are a number of songs I really like that have distinct parts to them, to the point where it’s fair to call them “composite songs”, made up of segments that could have been separate songs, yet that still hold together well enough to be one song. Let me give you a few examples to get the creative juices flowing. I’m sure you’ll be able to add to these. Every time I post a music diary, I’m surprised and gratified at the variety of responses that come through, and a lot of them refer to songs I’m not familiar with. So put ‘em out there! Here we go... “Carouselambra” — Led Zeppelin: 3 clearly defined segments, and in the end, unexpectedly hopeful “Pitch or Honey” — Neko Case: very deliberately two parts, as explained by the singer/songwriter “Daffodil Lament” — The Cranberries: pre- and post-liberation for our protagonist “Dry County” — The B-52’s: can small-town boredom be glorified any better? “Layla” — Derek and the Dominos: Not totally digging the second part? May want to take your pulse “Ragged Wood” — Fleet Foxes: folk la-la land with half anthemic flourish and half pensive restraint So what songs do you appreciate that seem like more than one song?
