SUV Driver Intentionally Strikes Migrants, "The motives ... are still under investigation." [1]

An driver in North Carolina intentionally struck 6 migrant workers outside a Walmart. Thankfully, none of them sustained life-threatening injuries.

Guess the description of the driver? No, seriously. Guess.



Did you guess older white dude? Of course you did. Because Fox News. Because GOP. Because stochastic terrorism. Because we live in a country that gestates hate, that glorifies violence, that intentionally warps a large part of the populace into reflexive bigots.

Dig that last line:

"The motives of the suspect are still under investigation," the department said.

I’m pretty damned sure I can guess the motivation. But investigatin’ investigators have to keep all options open. Maybe he was just taking a shortcut over that barrier, and he didn’t see the people standing there. Maybe he thought they were white, and he was just itchin’ to run over anybody that day. Maybe the vehicle’s self-driving software kicked in unexpectedly and it’s the on-board AI that’s bigoted. We’ll never know.

At least we have a description of the vehicle, though, so they’ll definitely catch the perp. It’s a dark, perhaps black, SUV.
