Calls to Secession Are Anti-American, Pure Evil, Heartless, and a Deranged Rightwing Talking Point [1]

Also Known As An Impulsive Emotional Rant Because I’m a Human Being too, Godammit...



Oh hey an article criticising a policy idea. I must be sticking it to the Republicans on this one. Well, partially. But my main point of disgust sits with the users of Daily Kos who think abandoning entire states worth of innocent people is somehow a Progressive, Democratic talking point. Well… it aint.



I don’t care about the ratios of Democrat to Republican in so called “”doomed”” states. There could be ten democrats between Texas and Florida and you know what? I don’t want to doom millions of social security recipients (hello!) to move or lose their benefits if Texas should secede from the Union. By the way, it can’t.



“Yet even before Texas formally rejoined the nation, the U.S. Supreme Court declared that secession was not legal, and thus, even during the rebellion, Texas continued to be a state. In the 1869 case Texas v. White, the court held that individual states could not unilaterally secede from the Union and that the acts of the insurgent Texas Legislature — even if ratified by a majority of Texans — were "absolutely null."



That’s just one source for Texas alone, which also applies to every other state under the white knuckled grips of rightwing tyranny. And you know what? I don’t care how hard the most deranged Republican voters scream how much they hate us. How much they may want me dead even. I say they don’t deserve to lose their benefits. I say they shouldn’t reap what they sow, that they shouldn’t get what they vote for because you know why? Because this sounds like Democrats are supposed to be the party of good policy, good programs, good legislation. And good legislation doesn’t just extend only to those who vote for it.



And dammit I said this a million times and I’ll say it a million more; I thought we were supposed to be the good guys. Where does that put us if we’re willing to chuck even just one righteous soul in a sea of red into the inferno? Where does that put us if we cackle and chuckle and clap our hands at every tragedy that strikes red states? Where does that put us when we laugh at bloodshed, misery and death? These are sentiments I have shared several times because it’s just unbelievable I see this on several leftwing websites and forums.



You know what else? I get social security benefits in one of the two states those in their cushy blue states are chomping at the bit wanting to ILLEGALLY saw off of the union. If I can’t move and I lose my benefits, I want to hold a lottery among those shouting to cut their losses, give up on supposed lost causes. If I lose my benefits because Democrat voters and politicians selfishly decide to help slash away all supposed “lost causes” like the far right want, the person who wins that lottery should have my rotting corpse chucked in front of their front door. Because I would be one of the ones perishing and too poor to leave the hellhole any seceded state would become.
