[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-05 Jospeh Gerth of the Louisville Courier-Journal brings us that lovely lie you see in the title of this diary. Gerth confirms what I already knew: Republicans are going to flat out lie about Governor Andy Beshear’s policy positions. There are TV ads already being run by Republican PAC’s that state Beshear is all for gender reassignment surgery for kids. And Daniel Cameron, McConnell’s Sith apprentice and current state attorney general, is going to use this lie against Beshear. I don’t know about other states, but there has never been ANY gender reassignment surgery befored on a child in Kentucky. From Gerth: It looks like Daniel Cameron and his allies are going all in on their big lie. Taking a page from his hero, Donald Trump, Cameron has decided if you repeat the same lie over and over, people will eventually believe it. He obviously believes this is his only path to the governorship. And the “big lie?” It’s the claim that Beshear thinks children should be subjected to gender-affirming surgery. Cameron has suggested this at campaign stops around the state and on Twitter, and two political action committees with ties to the Republican Governors Association has suggested it in political advertisements on television. Most recently, Kentucky Values, one of those PACs, went even further, stating flat out that Beshear favors such operations. “Beshear supports allowing young children to undergo permanent gender changing surgery,” the commercial says. It’s not surprising this is the GOP’s chief argument – after the legislature adjourned, one Republican told me that Beshear would be a one-term governor because he was in favor of “cutting off little boys’ weenies.” I have to restrain myself from throwing things at the TV when I see those ads. You see Beshear made the unforgivable sin to veto a bill that the supermajority of Republican passed to harass kids with gender dysphoria. The bill is Senate bill 150, and it’s big government in both the schools and restrooms making sure that kids with gender dysphoria are put in their place. Here’s a link to the latest anti-transgender law. No where did Beshear say that he was for gender reassignment surgery for kids while vetoing this evil bil. Beshear thought it was Kentucky state government coming between parent’s and the medical treatment they need for their transgender kids. And who the hell wants big government telling parents and teachers what can happen to kids? Remember, these are the same assholes who thought masks during the COVID-19 pandemic was a bridge too far. And God forbid you force a parent to get their kids a vaccination! FREEDUMB! But they are all OK for the state to inspect a kids genitals. Besides the bigotry, the reason this is being pushed by Cameron and his allies is that Republicans know they are behind in the race to replace Governor Beshear this year. Beshear has gotten high marks for how he has handled several emergencies in the state. One poll has Beshear up by ten point, while another Republican poll with fewer respondents supposedly has Beshear ahead but within the margin of error. Given the Republican lies against Beshear, I think that fact shows Republicans do not really believe the results of the second poll. If you are within in the range, you don’t really need to go to verifiable lies if you have the momentum. And as Gerth points out, Republicans have ZERO EVIDENCE that Beshear has ever proposed “cutting of the little boys’ weenies.” And if they felt so confident about their attacks on Beshear, “little boys’ weenies” Republican would proudly have his name with that lie. If you were protecting boys from being castrated, wouldn’t you want to shout that from the rooftops? Instead, he tells Gerth on background. Republicans think they can win on this “cultural issue” this year. I hope they do not. It will be interesting to see, especially if Beshear wins reelection. If you cannot win on anti-trans bigotry in Kentucky, where can Republicans use this as an issue in 2024?
