Previous Guy is doing it all wrong, he needs to promise FPS videogames for his insurrections [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-05 FAFO: Twitch riot caused by social media 'influencer'. Trump, rather than claiming political speech after the fact with his ‘Truth Social’ postings, needs to do what his rallies often promise on Craigslist: be a crowd ‘extra’ @ $15/hour or giveaway SWAG, even. Or has the Russian grain embargo caused bread shortages for his circus. The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are doing it wrong: promise an AR-15 giveaway for Mango Mussolini’s next ‘Will Be Wilding’ rally in DC. x But, wait, wasn't that Twitch guy just using his free speech and not responsible at all for the riot that occurred in NYC? In fact, how is it against the law to incite a riot? That's just free speech, right, Trump humpers, you fucking morons? — The Rude Pundit (@rudepundit) August 5, 2023 ANYONE OLDER THAN Gen Z may be confused by the celebrity of Kai Cenat, a 21-year-old Twitch and YouTube star who has captured a massive audience with his gaming, pranks, and high-energy persona. But to teenagers who spend hours watching Cenat mix it up with buddies and guests on livestreams, there can be no mystery as to how he ended up as one of Rolling Stone‘s 20 most influential creators of 2023. Cenat is so popular, in fact, with 6.5 million Twitch followers (he’s the most-subscribed user on the platform) and 4 million on YouTube, that his promotional stunts can spark mass chaos. On Aug. 4, thousands of his fans were drawn to New York’s Union Square, where he and fellow streamer Fanum had promised a massive giveaway of PlayStation 5 consoles. The crowd overran the park and surrounding streets long before Cenat arrived, and reportedly grew unruly, resulting in several arrests. On the scene, Cenat attempted to stream the chaos via Twitch; bodyguards appeared to surround him and push back the roiling, screaming masses. www.rollingstone.com/... Popular Twitch streamer and YouTuber Kai Cenat has been charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly after he advertised a “HUGE GIVEAWAY” in the city’s Union Square that descended into mayhem on Friday afternoon, with a crowd of thousands turning unruly. Cenat was released from police custody early Saturday and is set to appear in court on Aug. 18, the Associated Press reported. Officers initially evacuated Cenat for “safety reasons” and questioned him at a precinct on the evening of the riot, New York Police Department Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said at a Friday press conference. The NYPD also arrested 65 people, including 30 juveniles, according to Maddrey. He said several people in the crowd were injured in addition to at least three cops. www.thedailybeast.com/... x So a streamer unexpectedly draws a large crowd and gets arrested and charged with inciting a riot, but Donald Trump never did for the January 6th insurrection? Ok. https://t.co/pR5gWhfEJO — Keith Edwards (@keithedwards) August 5, 2023 On Wednesday, Cenat announced on his Twitch channel that he would host a “huge” giveaway with video game consoles, PCs, keyboards, gaming chairs, headphones and other items. As of Friday afternoon, the video had more than 2 million views. The event was supposed to begin at 4 p.m., but by 3 p.m. the park was filled, NBC New York reported. www.nbcnews.com/...
